Father’s Day

image“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him” (Psalm 103:13 ESV).

The word “father” can evoke a plethora of emotions. Some may think of their dads and smile proudly, while others may feel a twinge of pain at the thought. The fact is that the role of a father has become broken for many families in our society. For some it has turned into something that does not reflect the character of a father God. For many it resembles something far from God’s loving-kindness.

If you are reading this today and you feel a sense of sadness when you think of your father, let me encourage you. Our great God has loved you with an everlasting love. He has seen you at your worst and has kept His arms and heart open to you. You have not been forgotten. You are not alone and unloved.

There will never be a perfect father on this earth. We will see cracks and scars in the men who take up the important role of dad. But for those who truly strive to love as God loves, we see a glimpse of Heaven in them.

Our church is filled with great dads. I am thankful for all of you who make great efforts to show the true character of our Heavenly Father. I encourage you to continue to live your children and be a source of care and safety. Your job is not easy, but it is of great importance. You are shaping your children’s view of the Father they have in heaven.
