“The Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’ And God said, ‘I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.'” Exodus 3:11-12
I can’t tell you how many times I have echoed Moses’ question: “Who am I that you have chosen me?” The context of this chapter is that God has called Moses and told him that he is to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. That’s a huge undertaking! It’s a daunting task that Moses doesn’t feel qualified to do.
God’s response to Moses is the thing that amazes me most though. God doesn’t build Moses up with words of how great Moses is. He doesn’t say, “What do you mean Moses? You’re awesome, you’ve totally got this.” All God says to Moses is, “I am with you.” My mom used to have this old saying:
“God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.”
I think this example from Moses’ life is the best evidence that supports that claim. Moses definitely doesn’t feel like he is qualified to lead the Israelites, yet with those four words, “I am with you,” he is instantly qualified because God said so.
Is there something in your life that God is calling you to do but you don’t feel qualified? Just remember that God is with you and that makes you qualified.
