“But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he looks like” (James 1:22-24).
Have you ever looked in the mirror and immediately forgotten what you look like? That would be kind of silly wouldn’t it? You may forget a few features, but you still have an idea of what you look like. James compares forgetting what you look like after looking in a mirror to only hearing the word, and not doing what the word says as well.
We are called to be doers of the word. If we just listen to what the Bible or Pastor has to say, without letting it change us, then what’s the point? Just like there is no point in looking in the mirror if you are going to forget what you look like immediately, there is no point in hearing the word if you don’t do something about what it reveals.
I want to challenge you today. Don’t be just a hearer of the word. Get out there and do something about it.
