The Importance of the Word

In Proverbs 4:20-22 we read, “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them and health to all their flesh.”

In Malachi 4:2 we read, “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.”

The word “health” in Proverbs 4:22 and the word “healing” in Malachi 4:2 is the Hebrew word “marpe” (mar-peh), Strongs #4832, meaning a medicine, a cure, healing, remedy, sound, wholesome, yielding. “Marpe” comes from the verb “rapha” which means “to heal, cure, repair.”

In Psalm 41:4 the Psalmist writes, I said, “Lord, be merciful to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” And in Psalm 147:3 the Psalmist writes, “He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.” Here we have mention of the healing of a soul that has sinned and the healing of a broken heart. In this reference, the Messiah is compared to a rising sun, which has visible, radiant beams of sunlight streaming outward in all directions. From each of these beams of glorious light, healing flows (Spirit Filled Life Bible).

All of this was provided to us as “salvation” when we received His work upon the Cross. It was done for the whole person, nothing was omitted, NOTHING!

So now what? How do we obtain the manifestation of all of this? I think we have to go back to the Scripture in Proverbs 4:20-22. Devote oneself to His words, listen intently to His words, do not deviate from His words, and hide His words in the midst of our hearts. In order to do this we must read, study, meditate, and memorize Scriptures. Anything less than this will not get it.

Let’s make this part of our New Year’s Resolution!
