Enjoy The Heaven On Earth Moments

imageI always enjoy watching an evening twilight gradually cast a coolness into the air after a warm summer day. This time of day in the summer months is an added bonus after enduring a very intense amount of direct sunshine.

The evening sounds of birds, insects, smells of the garden or hay fields, and even sighs of relief from humans, all equate to a special moment after a well spent day. I know the earlier mornings take on that same pleasant atmosphere of light and coolness also before a full day of work begins. I will always celebrate both times of day with a gratefulness to our Lord for creating such contrasting times that bring such pleasure to my human mind.

By comparing our pleasant moments on earth that God so carefully lays before us, I attempted
to take my imagination toward wondering how magnificent heaven could possibly be. If this earth offered moments of pleasure then certainly heaven would offer an eternal time of pleasure for us to partake in.

The Apostle John wrote:
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away…’ The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp” (Revelation 21:I-4,23).

All I could muster up with my imagination was this: If God was this creative in making this earth, how much more is being prepared and waiting for us in heaven for those who love the Lord. I don’t think He stopped with love and beauty just outside heaven’s gate!

Experiencing God Through His Creation

imageI went to the beach last week. Susan, myself Lorna, Tyler, and my granddaughter Lillian went to California to visit with Susan’s Mom. I’m not a big California fan, but there are a couple of things that really grab attention while I’m there; the giant sequoias, the mountains of Yosemite, and the beach at Santa Cruz. We didn’t have time to travel to Yosemite this trip, so I escaped to the beach.

Santa Cruz is know as “Surf City, USA” according to Surfer magazine. The power of the waves and the swells break perfectly for surfing. It is amazing watching those athletes “catch a wave”. For me, however it is not about the surfing; it’s about the power, the sounds of water crashing against the rocks, the foam, the smell, all of it put together makes for a dramatic demonstration of God’s marvelous handy work. What a wonderful place to have devotions. Each morning as the sun was rising on the Eastern bay, I would settle in to the read my Bible, write down some thoughts, and pray. It is amazing the inspiration that bubbles up with those stimulating surroundings moving you.

Here’s a thought. This week, take an hour, go outdoors, under a tree, by stream or pond, sit on a rock or anywhere you feel creation. See what happens. Allow the God of the universe to speak to you. I think, as I was last week, you will be amazed.

Contemplating the Weight of God’s Glory

I was sitting in a boat, on Kessick Lake, in Quebec, Canada, about as far from anywhere you can get in this world, miles from the nearest store, community … civilization! A slight breeze pushed the boat as we drifted with our fishing lines in the water hoping to catch, well, anything. Off to our left an iconic figure of the north swam, a Loon. Then as if on cue she, or he, I’m not quite sure which, gave that lonesome, shrill cry, so familiar to the north. Check off another from the list … hear Loon call!

For those of you who were with us last week, you know we started a series about the Glory of God. I had been thinking about the subject for month, determined to work it into our overall theme “Follow with Purpose”, and the nature of the trip to Canada with “the boys” gave me a lot of time to meditate, contemplate, pray and consider. The setting of beauty, solitude, even isolation, proved to be a stunning canvas in which to construct and build this topic. Inspired by the rich “Glory” of God’s creation, the stimulus of the Word and the revelation given through prayer, was amazing. An experience I will not soon forget. I only hope that in the weeks to come I will be able to share with you the “weight” of my experience, and the insight I received for what I believe is a timely message for Dennison Foursquare.

Thank you for allowing me to share THE GLORY with you!

Sound Comes Forth!

Our state bird, the Cardinal or Red Bird, breaks the quiet of predawn with his unique song. Another answers in kind. They are the first to announce the coming sunrise. Soon a variety of birds are joining their song adding to the chorus with their own distinct songs, filling the morning with a beautiful concert of musical celebration

The Tom Gobbler rattles the woods with his gobble, gobble, gobble, as the sun lightens the east. A woodpecker’s rata-tat-tat serves to announce his workday has begun. The woods are alive with SOUND.

SOUNDS, notes, musical tone… I am reminded that the world was created by SOUND. Elohim our Creator spoke “Let there be…” and out of those words… SOUND… light burst forth, the universe, stats, sun, moon, our world, dry land, water, trees, animals, man, all was spoken into existence at the SOUND of God’s voice!

Was there a symphony of SOUND when creation happened? What did it SOUND like? Mountains crashing, thunderous roar of water, wind, shifting earth, growing trees, excited birds, animals with never before heard voices…. Was man’s first words a whisper or a shout? Did he cry? Perhaps both.

Did all of nature, the universe, and the world break into praise? Did the trees clap their hands? Did the oceans roar? Did the wind sing a lonesome song?

On this spring morning… How can I remain silent? How can I remain quiet? While in the presence of such worshipful SOUND, I will not be silent! I will open my mouth and… speak! I will join creation in worshipful praise to our Creator and my Saviour.

Enjoying the SOUNDS of spring!
